The news: Duolingo’s “AI-first” mission includes phasing out some human workers in favor of automation, CEO Luis von Ahn said in a letter to employees.

  • The education technology giant will stop using contractors for any work that AI can handle.
  • Duolingo will only hire more employees if teams can’t automate the work needed—a move also made by Shopify.
